Welcome to Bokamoso Ke Barona

Welcome to Bokamoso Ke Barona, a youth-led organisation dedicated to the development of young people in the Greater Alexandra Area. Since 2007, we have been working tirelessly to uplift and support our community, empowering disadvantaged young people by equipping them with essential economic skills and addressing their social needs.

At Bokamoso Ke Barona, we believe that every young person has the potential to thrive and become self-reliant. By understanding the ever-changing needs of our environment and engaging with various stakeholders, including young people, we can identify opportunities for growth within our community. Through these partnerships, we create avenues for empowering young people and enabling them to take control of their own lives.

Our impact speaks for itself. As we equip our youth with valuable economic skills, they become less reliant on state social benefits. Engaging in meaningful work that they love also helps decrease crime rates within our community. As poverty decreases, we witness the rise of patriotic citizens who actively contribute to both their own well-being and that of their fellow community members.

“I want to give a shout out to the amazing Bokamoso Ke Ba Rona for changing my life. Back in 2015, they offered a training program called End User Computing, and I decided to give it a shot. Little did I know that this decision would open up so many doors for me. These workshops gave me the tools and knowledge I needed during my job search. You see, I had already obtained a Diploma in Financial Accounting, but without those accredited certificates from Bokamoso, my qualifications alone weren't enough to stand out.

Now, thanks to the skills and confidence I gained through Bokamoso, I'm proud to say that I'm working for a prestigious medical company based in Fourways. We supply equipment and pills to both private and government hospitals. None of this would have been possible without the support and guidance I received from the amazing team at Bokamoso.

I can't stress enough how important it is for young people like yourselves to get involved with Bokamoso. Their programmes and services are designed to empower youth and provide them with the tools needed to succeed. ”

“I joined Bokamoso Ke Ba Rona in 2018, looking for a job and hoping to start my own business. I was amazed by the enthusiasm and support from the staff who were eager to assist me. One programme that really stood out to me was their offer of free-limited internet access. Being passionate about art and design, I saw this as an opportunity to pursue my interests.

I spent countless hours at Bokamoso, practicing and learning Photoshop from Monday to Friday. With the money I saved up, I was able to purchase a DSLR camera and started a business taking photos around schools in my community. I would then edit these photos at Bokamoso. Excitingly, I applied for funding at NYDA and was fortunate enough to receive a laptop.

My love for graphic design only grew stronger through this journey. Now, I am skilled in using three different design software programmes. I am forever grateful to Bokamoso Youth Centre for the opportunities they have provided me with. ”

One day, as I was repeating my matric and going to the community library, I stumbled upon an event hosted by Bokamoso at our community centre, "Sankopan." They were giving out pamphlets and encouraging young people to enrol in short courses. Although many people seemed uninterested, thinking it might be a scam, I could see that Bokamoso genuinely wanted to help us succeed and have better opportunities in life.

I realized that there are people out there who truly care about the lives of young individuals and want to see us thrive. So, I mustered up the courage to approach them and find out how I could join their group and be part of the team. To my surprise, they were incredibly friendly and welcoming, showing me that they truly believed in our potential to achieve greatness.

They started inviting me to their events and programmes, like the "Take a Girl Child to Work" day. I was so inspired by what I experienced that I invited everyone I knew - my friends, family, neighbours, even people from my high school. I wanted them to see how this organization could change their lives too.

But as time went on, some of those who initially showed interest started losing their enthusiasm. Many complained that they couldn't afford to travel to the organization's office for the short courses. It was far away. However, as a repeating matric student, I didn't let distance stop me. I would go to the library first and then walk all the way to the organization's office in Wynberg just to attend the courses.

And you know what? All that hard work paid off because I finally passed my matric! It was the happiest day of my life.”

“I heard on Alex FM that Bokamoso was looking for youth between age 18-35 years, for a Cosmetology leadership. I when to the office and apply after few days receive a call I was one of the candidates that have meet their criteria. We studied Cosmetology after completing the course we were advised by Bokamoso staff to register our business, during the time I also volunteer my time to assist with community projects that Bokamoso had, I then end up working full time I was appointed to feel a position of cleaner for a year. Another post was advertised for advice desk I applied got the position, we were also given the opportunity as staff to develop our self I studied project management course. I then realize my love for beauty I left Bokamoso after a great four year years to learn more about the beauty industry so that I will be able to focus on my business. Today I own Buyi Beauty Studio. Thank you to the dedicated staff of Bokamoso and Social development”
